On December 10th, the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Governmental Affairs Work Group met with members of the Shelby County Legislative Delegation. Representative Matt Fridy, Representative Arnold Mooney, and Senator Waggoner were present.
During the meeting, they discussed the education and general fund budgets for the 2021 fiscal year. Despite the impact of the pandemic, both budgets saw minor increases from fiscal year 2020. Our legislators also discussed the importance of the rolling reserves set up for each budget, and how those have created some stability, as we head into the future.
Delegation members also took this opportunity to look at the possibility of a special session, as well as talk about what the general session in February might look like. Our legislators expect to see many of the bills from last session return in 2021, as the 2020 session was interrupted by quarantine.
It is always an honor to meet with business leaders Shelby County and we are grateful for this opportunity provided by the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce. Thank you to Sain and Associates for providing us a spacious and safe place to meet.
