“After last week’s brief special session, the Alabama Legislature agreed on a revised Congressional District Map. The new map was voted on during session Friday, and votes were split down party lines, with all Democrats present that day voting against the approved map.
The main changes happened in Districts 2 and 7 (the current majority-Black district). District 2 will now have a 39.93% Black voting age population and District 7 will have a 50.65% Black voting age population, down from its current 55.6%. The next hearing for federal judges to consider the new map will be held August 14. If it is determined that the new map does not satisfy the ruling from the Supreme Court, a special master will be appointed to redraw the map.”
