Covid Vaccine Information

COVID-19 Vaccine Update

The state of Alabama began disbursing Covid-19 vaccines for Phase 1A, which included frontline healthcare workers and nursing home residents, in December 2020. Phase 1B was broken up into two groups, with first responders and those ages 75 and up, being able to receive their vaccine starting January 18. As of February 8, 2021, vaccine appointments are now open up to educators, frontline essential workers, childcare providers, and others in Phase 1B. The distribution of the vaccines was left up to the individual providers and counties were able to make appointment dates flexible at their discretion and vaccine availability.

Phases 1C and 2 have not started in Alabama, but will begin when everyone that currently qualifies for the vaccine has had the opportunity to receive it. You can choose to receive the vaccine in any county with availability; however, the second dose must be given by the same provider as the first dose. You can find out more information about the vaccine and your eligibility by visiting https://www.alcovidvaccine.gov, or clicking the links below. To speak to someone directly with the Shelby County Health Department regarding the vaccine, call 205-664-2470.
